Week 6

Week 6 was a very interesting week for us as we learned more about why we were using Twitch and had a clear picture of our design. At first, even though our team was not confident about using the Twitch platform, we are glad that our client explained to us the importance of Twitch. Imagine being able to collect 500 microwave sounds in 10 minutes by reaching just one person – Twitch makes this possible. It had more than 15 million daily active users and between 2.2 and 3.2 million monthly broadcasters in 2018. For each streamer we reach, we get many viewers because the amplifier effect takes place.

Next, we discovered that there is an existing culture of Twitch that the community efforts can accomplish a big goal or a task. In our case, it enables the ability to collect thousands of sounds from the viewers. We were surprised to find viewers willing to donate money to support their streamers and for social good. Our goal is to tap into this by transforming this culture into donating audio for the greater good which is to help researchers to advance sound research and development. After having a clear idea of the advantages of using Twitch and why it was important for our project to be successful, we started focusing on our next challenge which was to develop a fun game to collect audio.

After several rounds of discussion with our client and advisors, we come up with a service design blueprint extending our audio collection experience into two phases : before streaming and during streaming. This allowed us to separate audio collection process from the game on stream.  Viewer could collect sound whenever they are convenient or notice a good sound. And streamer will host a game using all the sounds collected from the viewer in the streaming.

After this, we knew that we had to step up on the accelerator to speed up our project to achieve our milestone for halves. Creating a sprint plan and project schedule helped us to understand our goals as a team.
