Updates

First some updates on the app

We added a little rocket animation at the begining of the web app.

We added a 404 page

Zoom Playtest

The best way to improve a product is always user testing and iterate based on the feedback. This week, we did our first remote user testing with one of our faculty, Mike Christel.

The team thought about different ways for playtesting, questionnaire, video recording, zoom, etc. We finally decided to do a Zoom meeting with Mike for our playtesting, because we think we can go deeper and talk more about his feedback, and have the chance to ask follow-up questions.

We sent him the link to our web app before the meeting. He let us choose whether to let him play before our meeting, or during the meeting. We chose to let him play before the meeting, so we would have more time to talk about his experience.

We learned a lot during the playtest, he gave us much useful feedback. Here are our notes from the playtest:

  • Using Samsung S8 (2016)
  • Using Chrome
  • It would be nice to re-enter the tutorial pages
    • Mike immediately hit “x” to close the tutorials
  • The “create an account” page is a little too empty
  • It takes several seconds to create an account, would be nice to have something indicates that the system is working and processing the data
    • It is normal for the web app to be slow, but need to show the user that their action is being processed
    • Otherwise, users might think the system is broken
  • Color is nice, and UI is very clean
  • Should think about backend data structures, how to store information
  • Now users can spam the system by sending the feedback to one booth over and over if they “visited” and “un-visite” the booth many times
    • Can set a limit to this
  • Text in the booth information page, the tags, are out of the container
  • Would be nice for a user to share the current page link and it will directly take another user to the same booth info page
    • Need some work and programming design to do this, but it’s fun and we can learn a lot about single-page web app dev
  • Easy to go through, know what I need to do
  • The map page – the button bar is blocking the text a little bit
  • The tutorial page, it doesn’t feel like one. Maybe add another page with “Welcome”, before jumping into the screenshots
  • Did not notice the “stamp” effect on visited booths

The team will discuss the feedback and talk about how we can improve our web app. See you next week!
