We made graphs! This week we visualized all the data we have in Tableau and shared the graphs with our client to find more insights about it. Our client brought a producer and a Tech Director from the Sims team so that we could discuss making better connections between the data and the Sims game.

In this graph we demonstrate the general trend with the “number of mods” created each month and related it with the Sims 4 pack/patch release data:

As you can see, there is a boost after the release of vampires pack and Toddler patch release. So we are interested to know are those mods released all tightly related to this release? So we listed the mods according to their popularity and marked the mods we thought could be related to the pack release. Here’s an example:

We did similar breakdown for different categories. We found the second most popular category was “Miscellaneous-Others”, which means undefined. This supported our idea of better categorizing the Game Mods.

We also ranked the creators by the total downloads they have, and marked different category with different color. As you can see here, the top creator got a lot of downloads from making Traits mods.

It was an exciting experience to sit down with these people and learn something so closely related to the Sims 4. Our clients came up with several interesting observations and immediately tied the results back to their current production. They also gave a lot of valuable feedback about our graphs. We found that our clients were more interested in knowing “the top”. Apart from the general trends, they wanted us to focus on demonstration the most popular items. Besides that, they were very interested in the top creators and want us to better breakdown their information. They also suggested that we be careful about defining the popularity of a mod. Currently we are using number of downloads as the measurement. However, one mod may get downloaded multiple times because it is broken after a patch/pack release of Sims 4.

From this meeting, we got a list of the things they want to know and the things we need to improve. Having all the materials we need, we are ready for the Sprint!
