Newsletter 5: Week 5

Date : 13th February, 2015

This was a pretty decent week. The team had decent quarters, got useful feedback, made a couple of prototypes for different interactions and also attended an Augmented Reality Talk on 12th February.

So, the week started with preparing for Quarters. While preparing for quarters, the team decided on which SDK to use, also made 2 prototypes: Mirror reflection and a multi-player game. The team also came up with 4 different game ideas to present during the quarters and get feedback on.

During the quarters, we got really good feedback on certain topics like: type of audience, what kind of game that we are going for, ergonomics for the glasses (fall down when head tilted), limitations of the glasses, different game ideas. The team is working on game design aspects this week to answer all of these questions. But, we figured out the ergonomics aspect: by ordering head straps for the glasses.

Later, after the quarters, the programmers started working on different interactions for the game by playing around with virtual buttons, showing earthquakes in AR, flipping of the marker and next interaction on tower defense.

Our artists provided many models to the programmers to perform stress testing on the glasses. They placed around 30 models in the scene, to see if there is any potential lag. But, it worked pretty well on the glasses with a decent frame rate. We also decided to on a particular game idea: similar to tower defense to go forward with.

So, this week, the team is going to finalize on some game design aspects and start on with the development phase for the game. We are also figuring out the schedule for the coming weeks and when to conduct play-tests so that we get useful feedback and keep iterating over it.
