Newsletter 7 : Week 7

Date : 27th February,2015

So, last week Team Illusions got a lot of work done. We successfully completed the initial game prototype giving a basic idea of the core mechanic and how the game world would look like.

The programmers worked on the getting the most stable prototype so that it is ready for play test. We had a simple tower defense ‘vs’ mode ready to test. The minions were of 3 colors : Red, Green and Blue, where Red kills Green, Green Kills Blue, Blue kills Red.

This is how the game looks like now:

We conducted a play test on 26th February. The play test was conducted for a couple of reasons:

  1. To see how much time the players take to learn the technology.
  2. if they successfully track the marker.
  3. If the instructions were enough given while playing the game
  4. What do they think about the game idea in general.

We had 7 play testers in all. The players were made to stand besides each other. Getting the marker tracked is an important part in our game. If the marker is not tracked well, the game would not show up. So, during testing, we observed that most of the players could track the marker easily at the first time itself but there were some who could not do it the first time but later picked up. While the players were playing the game, we observed that all the players were focusing more on generating the minions using the second marker rather than enjoying the experience in the actually game world.

The players also mentioned that it was difficult for them to remember the Red-Green-Blue analogy as it did not have any connection or something that they would relate too. They also mentioned it would be more fun, if the players stood across each other so that they would feel more competitive.

The players said that they liked the idea that we were going on. Some changes and iterations in the design would make the game much better.
