2024 Student Handbook
Student handbook for the ETC class that started August 26 2024
The ETC Festival is an event hosted at the end of the fall semester at Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center where the projects, films, games and interactive experiences created by the student teams throughout the semester are showcased in a carnival-like atmosphere. We were happy to have guests back in the building this year to show the amazing work done by the ETC students in person. The first year students had 22 interactive experiences from the Building Virtual Worlds (BVW) class and final videos from the Visual Story class. The second year students also hosted festival guest to showcase their projects.
In case you were not able to join us, we did broadcast the event on our YouTube Chanel
Earlier in the day, Building Virtual Worlds instructor, Dave Culyba, awarded the ‘First Penguin Award’ given to the student team who took the most risks during an assignment. This year’s First Penguin went to Team 36, who created Jump Fish, using the Icaros + Vive Trackers game players were Mudskipper fish jumping from island to island to retrieve their hats. The team consisted of Anna Saleiva, Shaowen (Ariel) He, YiCheng Lu, Jiajian Zhang, Yilin (Cora) Zhu.
All January we will be featuring some of the Building Virtual World assignments during the ETC Festival on our social media pages. Make sure to check out our Facebook page to see demos of the worlds created by the students.
