Hannah Gunderman

Hi, I'm Hannah! I'm a Pittsburgh-based Visiting Professional with ETC and a Wellbeing Researcher at Lumi Interactive, an independent game development studio in Australia. Formerly, I was a Data, Gaming, and Popular Culture Librarian at CMU Libraries where I used my lifelong passion for video games to teach data management concepts to students, staff, and faculty working on research projects. I am a cultural geographer by training, and I study how people develop enthusiasm toward popular culture media and how this impacts their movements within and perceptions of places and people on planet Earth. My Ph.D. research explored the impact of Doctor Who fandom on empathy, compassion, and geopolitical knowledge, and I now use my background in popular culture and video game studies to conduct research on effective, evidence-based game design practices.
