2024 Student Handbook
Student handbook for the ETC class that started August 26 2024
Before coming to ETC, I have received both master and bachelor degrees in Computer Science at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), Xi'an, China. During studied in NPU, I participated into several contests, Mathematical Contest in Modeling for example, and projects, like 3D face recognition. I also learned a lot about software engineering in Microsoft Technology Club at NPU. All these activities helped me to gain a solid foundation of computer science.
Although I have learned so much in the past several years, I decided to learn something really fun to me, i.e. the technology to develop video games. Since eight years old, I began to play electronic games. So far I have played tens of different computer games, including Red Alert, Counter-Strike, Mu, Daikoukai Jidai, Championship Manager, Winning Eleven, Warcraft, etc. Along with the increase of number of games I had played, I developed a strong interest to build virtual world and games. I have developed several models and programs about basic game elements, such as particle system for simulating natural scenes, collective models about bird flock and shoal. Areas I most interest include artificial intelligence, map editor, human-computer interaction, etc.
I wish to become a game software engineer after graduation from ETC, and find a position in game companies.
In terms of the computer skills, I have significant experience with C/C++, and familiar with many utilities including OpenGL, Subversion and Python. Now I am learning shader language and CUDA, and really enjoy them. At the same time, I also interest in design patterns, refactoring, object- oriented analyse and design.
