We had a good adviors meeting today, they like what we have so far. For my side, I finally got us permissions with Steve Audia for Perforce and Unity Asset Server. Now its time for us to get clear how to use any of this then I think we are ready to go as a team.

Perforce  —> Any necessary none game related work to be backed up and version-control.

Unity Server —> Anything that need to be in game is going to store and version-control at here.

Randon —> Anything massive file size, such as movie or image sequences.

Naming convention,

Prefix_(which version control, u means unity and p means perforce)_andrewID_(File content)

Unity related files —> EX: md_u_mtsai1_9mmBullet.ma

Perforce related files —-> md_p_mtsai1_dummyBox.ma

Any files on randon can be named anything you want, but we recommanded if its for project use in programming, better stay with our format.

Here are the noticeable prefix we are using,

models —> md

textures —> tx

sounds —> sfx

And this will go though team emails tonight.

These two days I spend most of my time to go over Unity’s documentations and online videos. Got general ideas for what should we utilize Unity’s asset server into our project. Still need to get more setting info or need Steve Audia to set things up for us.

And we also need perforce to set up, that’s mainly for our pre-render use.

Will go over all the ideas with team tomorrow either before or during the advisors meeting.

We have our first progress meeting today, everyone has a good idea on their task or tasks.

So far for pipeline wise, we are acquiring Unity3D pro licenses for team and for the project. I personally installed the 30 days trial version so I can keep design the structures for the project. And am aware that we need to come with animation pipeline as well for pre-render stuff.

Have talked with Steve Audia about the Unity3D asset server, setting up tonight.

Will presenting complete report of my pipeline evaluation on Monday either during or before weekly advisers meeting.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t that productive or at project room today because of my TA duty. But I promise, which I am trying really hard to get all BVW related works (Machine setup for new students) done so I can focus on work as soon as I can.

Task tonight, start to evaluate Unity3D pro version for team and still figuring out the folder structures.

Talked to most of the team that I am volunteering for pipeline/work flow monitor position for the team.

Originally, we were trying to go with Unity3D + Perforce to design our project. After speak with people from team Unity, Andrew Gartner and Steve Audia, we’ve got the message that Unity3D and Perforce is not a good combination.

Both Andrew and Steve mentioned about Unity3D’s asset server. I will take a look in to that and expecting to have a full evaluation report for pipeline and directory structure on Monday. Thankfully, we are still in early stage of production. There are only couple assets we plan to build now. And thanks for Arvin to model those, which I am expecting to join the assets creation or pre-viz once the pipeline is set.

So, we had meetings about out game level 1. We talked about prints, DNAs, Ballistics, Blood splatters, Time of Death and etc. And we came up with level 1 primary using Ballistics and matching.

One side note, our visual story instructor from last semester, Ralph Vituccio’s daughter is studying forensic in Pittsburgh. And we got verbal agreement from Ralph that we can ask her for test or info through him.

Team CSI stands for “Crime Scene Innovation”!!! Alright, finally everyone from the team is on board, not that I am the last one but I felt really bad that I missed lots of mini meetings because my conflict of schedules.

Anyway, first thing first. We had a conference call with Dr. Lee who is kindly to spend his 30 minutes lunch time with us to talked about visions he has. The results are similar to what we address in last week’s meeting (which I wasn’t able to attend). We’ve another meeting with team members this afternoon to go over with everyone’s note and everyone’s research about this project. It had been a very productive day as a team.

Tonight’s assignment, research for “Phone records cross matching technique and etc.”.

Next meeting is at 1pm, thanks for everyone arranging their schedule to match mine. Thanks guys, I’ll re-arrange it too. 🙂
