For this week, we focused our time on changing the mechanic of aiming and reflection. We did it in order to make the aiming easier so the guest can have more physical movement.
We changed the light, The light beams should be a different color (or appearance) when being reflected by each individual player. The goal is that a player can tell whether a light is safe to reflect or not.
We decided there should be a limit angle and distance that this should work in. Ideally players shouldn’t be able to reflect the light while holding the phone backwards to the light source.
We also would have a playtest for next Monday and our ETC playtest day next Tuesday. We designed a playtest plan.
Our new design for the light.
Updated design features
Increasing the number of light sources
Our UI/UX designer created a first draft of a feedback system so players can tell when they are getting hitting by light and are successfully in range and reflecting light. After playtesting we learned that it was still confusing as they look too similar and will make changes.
Our artists also created barriers in the shape of cardboard cutouts that players will be able to place in order to dodge light sources. This way players are more encouraged to move around the space. We also played around with the idea of creating negative light beams in order to deter players from moving into the other players play space so our artist also started iterations for that possibility.
